1. Had to post this too. This is exactly what it’s like to be taught/coached by Jesse Read. (See my previous post).
I’ve always wanted to take a snapshot or record a coaching session with Jesse because he’s like a Mary Poppins carpet bag of unending knowledge, wisdom, and awesomeness. It’s always kind of awkward to just think about asking my professors, teachers, and coaches if I can tote my camera along with me to lessons. I think it’s because lessons are actually really private things. Why? I don’t know. But I’ve noticed this feeling between me and all of my teachers. It just might be why education is more important than simply learning things. It’s something unspoken.
You probably realize by this point that I’m utterly failing at describing this unique connection between teacher and student. I really don’t know how to put it into words. I probably will never be able to understand what this is, and it’s why I’ve never asked any of my teachers if I can record our lessons to put on YouTube.
So I decided, instead, to interview them. I get to showcase the awesome personalities that have influenced me so much, my teachers are comfortable with interviews (they get interviewed all the time by more important people and organizations than me), and you guys get a peek into the behind-the-scenes of the professional classical music world. Win-win-win.
But even so, I love the fact that the camera still catches glimpses of that teacher-student connection. It’s hard to hide. :)
