I Was Called a Chink on BART

I was standing on a crowded rush-hour BART (that’s Bay Area Rapid Transit) reading Is Critique Secular? Blasphemy, Injury, and Free Speech (Wendy Brown, Talal Asad, Saba Mahmood, and Judith Butler) when I heard someone talking about “Orientals” taking over the university.  I thought he was talking to his neighbour.

He continued: “I really hate how these Orientals buy their way into schools like Berkeley, and then they come out and screw the rest of us off. You watch them. When they’re walking on the street, they walk right past the people begging for money as if they don’t see them.” Read more…
